runners — Michael & wife
If you want to run, run a mile. If you want to experience another life, run a marathon.

For my wife and me, running is far more than sport — it is our shared balance, our way of clearing our heads and sometimes our best conversation. Rain, snow or spring sunshine: we are out there. We track all activities on Strava.

Our favourite runs in the region

Inndammlauf Raubling

Our home race — practically on our doorstep. A course along the Inn embankment with a great atmosphere in the village.

Rosenheim City Run

Right through the town centre — home-match atmosphere, a short journey, always motivating.

Burgfeldlauf Aising

A beautiful course through nature, great community and a run that is fun.

Dr. Seelmayer Memorial Run

Au near Bad Feilnbach — a tradition we have stayed faithful to for years.

Nightrun Salzburg

Running through Mozart's city at night — headlamp on, along the Salzach, an unforgettable atmosphere.

My marathon story

Four marathons — four unforgettable experiences. Each different, each formative.

2006

Munich Marathon — 3:27:00

My very first marathon — and what a start. Munich, the atmosphere, the finish in the Olympic Stadium. That day made me a runner.

2007

Hamburg Marathon ⭐ Personal best — 3:22:41

Spring 2007 — my personal best to this day. I visited my childhood friend Andreas Kloo, a sports journalist in Hamburg, who also put me up. The perfect preparation: familiar company, short distances, full focus. The result: 3:22:41.

2007

Berlin Marathon — 3:29:00

Autumn 2007 — the goal was 3:15 and beating my best time. Then came a knee injury. I ran anyway — in pain, with short walking breaks again and again. Through the Brandenburg Gate, gritting my teeth, getting there. Under these conditions 3:29 was still strong.

2020

Hamburg Marathon — cancelled 😷

At 40 I wanted to run my 4th marathon — under 4 hours, Hamburg, everything planned. Then came Corona. The start was cancelled and the plan put on ice. It would take another four years.

2024

Generali Munich Marathon ⭐ Mission accomplished — 3:56:00

At 44 — finally. The mission that Corona had stolen from me in 2020: my 4th marathon under 4 hours. It was cold and it poured with rain. My sister-in-law Katrin, formerly a top athlete, ran at my side. And then the surprise: my wife Karin and our youngest daughter Ida were suddenly standing at the side of the course. I ran to the finish with Ida. I will never forget that moment.

Munich 2006 — the beginning

In 2006 everything was new. First marathon, first race number, first finish. The nervousness in the morning, the exhaustion after kilometre 35 and the indescribable feeling of happiness at the finish — you never forget that.

Berlin 2007: medal around my neck, knee wrecked, pride in my heart. The goal was 3:15 — with a knee injury it became 3:29. Still across the finish line, still a medal. 2007 was my year: personal best in spring, fighting spirit in autumn.

Munich 2024: cold, wet, 42 kilometres and a surprise shortly before the finish. My wife Karin and daughter Ida were waiting at the side of the course — and Ida ran the last stretch with me. Four years after the aborted mission in Hamburg the goal was reached: 3:56 hours, 4th marathon, under 4 hours. Mission accomplished.
